Okay, I make a decent living as an Interior Designer. It’s true some months are better than others, but all in all, it’s not too bad. Do I have national notoriety? No. Am I a Candice Olsen, Shelia Bridges or Celerie Kimble? No, but I’m just one client away from it. (I pray) Will droves of consumers buy from me just because my name is Penny Law? (Shameless plug) Uh-uh. And I get that.
But what I don’t get, is how people known and celebrated for one thing, can influence how people buy a certain unrelated product just because they associate their name with said product. Yes, this is America! It’s what we do. We, as a whole, are obsessed with celebrities and what they say, how they dress, what they are doing and what they are not doing and who they are, or are not doing it with.
I’m talking about the latest Home Interior Collection by Paula Dean. Serta now has a Paula Dean mattress line. Don’t get me wrong, I love me some Paula Dean. Her southern fried food cuisine is righteous and she deserves every trail of income and fame from that industry. But mattresses? Sure she sleeps on one, but don’t we all. Is it just me?
What about Cindy Crawford and her Cindy Crawford Home Collection by Rooms To Go. Her collection is “greatly influenced by her personal style”. What does that mean? The fabrics on her sofa collection look like the clothes in her closet?
Is it just me?
All right, I admit it! I’m just a wee, tiny, tiny bit, just a drop envious. So, I’m taking notes Paula and Cindy – watch out for my new tennis shoe collection coming to outlets soon! I’m taking that idea and running and far as I can go with it! Ha!!!!
